Diving Medicals

Smart Clinics Doctors Australia Brisbane Gold Coast Skin Checks

Not all General Practitioners can perform a Dive Medical Examination. Diving Medicals can only to be conducted by a Doctor who has had the approved training to medically examine recreational and occupational divers. Click here for a list of SmartClinics GP’s who are qualified to perform this test.

Scuba diving can be dangerous and even fatal if the diver has a pre-existing medical condition. Medical conditions or disorders may cause a diver to experience disorientation, impaired judgment, impaired mobility, unconsciousness or decompression sickness whilst they are underwater.  As a precaution, all Queensland divers are legally required to have passed a Diving Medicals Examination that has been done in accordance with Australian Standards AS 4005.1

There are two types of Diving Medicals Examinations – Recreational and Commercial. Both take approximately 45 minutes and cost approximately $132 – $176 depending on the test type. The test includes hearing and eyesight tests, urine test, lung function test, taking blood pressure and height and weight, as well as the patient completing a medical questionnaire. Patients will also need to have a chest X-ray at an additional cost.
