Dr Eileen Rafter

Dr Rafter was raised in Spain by her Irish father and Australian mother, and speaks fluent Spanish. She studied medicine at Edinburgh University before completing her GP training in England and Scotland. After brief stints of work in Honduras, South Africa and Liverpool, Dr Rafter came to Cairns in 1998. The outdoor lifestyle and the arrival of two children have kept her here ever since. Dr Rafter has a special interest in Indigenous health and in Women’s health, particularly antenatal care. She feels that a holistic and preventative approach to healthcare is important, including educating individuals about their health issues.
