Diving Medicals

Not all General Practitioners can perform a Diving Medical Examination. Diving Medicals can only be conducted by a doctor with the approved training to medically examine recreational and occupational divers.

Scuba diving can be dangerous and even fatal if the diver has a pre-existing medical condition. Medical conditions or disorders may cause a diver to experience disorientation, impaired judgment, impaired mobility, unconsciousness or decompression sickness while underwater. As a precaution, all Queensland divers are legally required to pass a Diving Medical Examination that is conducted in accordance with Australian Standards AS 4005.1.

There are two types of Diving Medical Examinations; Recreational and Commercial. Both take approximately 45 minutes, depending on the test type. The test includes hearing and eyesight tests, urine tests, lung function tests, blood pressure and height and weight tests, and the patient completes a medical questionnaire. Patients will also need to have a chest X-ray at an additional cost.

We do not currently take online bookings for Diving Medicals.
