MoleMax Mole Scanning

Highly specialised skin checks

Are you concerned about a mole, freckle or other skin blemish?

Over time, moles can change shape, colour and size and it’s very normal to have questions about whether a mole is likely to become cancerous. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell whether a mole represents a threat to your health using the naked eye. To be sure, professional equipment needs to be utilised. This is where MoleMax scanning comes into play. The MoleMax HD scanning machine provides incredibly detailed images, far superior to traditional mole scanning instruments. The MoleMax HD magnifies to 40x, which is far higher than a standard handheld dermatoscope (the typical tool used by doctors to investigate moles and diagnose skin cancers), which only magnifies to 10x.

What are the benefits of a MoleMax mole scan?

A MoleMax scan at SmartClinics Smithfield is far more highly magnified than other traditional scanners used in many GP clinics, which gives your doctor far greater insight into the makeup of your moles. However, the real benefit for patients lies in the tracking, analysis and comparison capabilities of MoleMax. MoleMax can store images of moles digitally and analyse changes over time. This allows doctors to get a better idea of how skin is changing and whether that change is accelerating.

MoleMax is also able to adjust for your skin tone to ensure accurate assessment. Combined with regular appointments, MoleMax is an extremely powerful way of tracking and identifying the development of skin cancers.

What does a MoleMax mole check cost?

A standard consultation and MoleMax scan can be done relatively quickly, usually in a 20 minute consultation. The cost is $72.80 and most patients will receive a Medicare rebate of $38.29. We highly recommend that everyone organises regular skin checks with a doctor that provides MoleMax scanning. It’s a small price to pay for your health and safety.

Patients over 65 with a healthcare card are bulk-billed, as are pensioners and veterans.

Do you need a referral for a MoleMax scan?

You do not need a referral for a MoleMax HD scan at SmartClinics. It can be conducted by your GP.

Don’t risk getting skin cancer because a mole wasn’t diagnosed early enough. The earlier your diagnosis, the more effective the follow-up treatment. Moles detected early can be treated relatively easily using minimally-invasive techniques.
